Athletic Therapy & Kinesiology.

At Agile we see athletic therapy as a way of relieving pain, optimizing physical function, and ultimately improving performance, whatever form that takes.

Our Athletic therapists specialize in treating musculoskeletal problems, involving injury to structures such as joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and nerves.  Athletic therapists are best known for their amazing quick-thinking on-field assessments and treatments which lead them to their current in-clinic roles. So whether you are injured and training for a big event or just wanting to be able to pick up grand kids off the floor, if you are having problems an Athletic Therapist is here for you.

While it is more common for people to seek athletic therapist when they are injured or in pain, athletic therapist can also help with preventing injury by identifying underlying physical deficits.  By addressing these, you can reduce your risk of injury in the future, particularly if you are about to take up a new sport or type of exercise.

What can athletic therapy help with?

  • Sports injuries

  • Back and neck pain

  • Rehabilitation following surgery or fractures

  • Ligament and muscle tears and strains

  • Tendon problems

  • Arthritis and other joint conditions

  • Work related pain

  • Chronic conditions

What to expect?

On your first visit, you will be asked about your current problem and the impact on your life and activities. Your athletic therapist will want to know about previous injuries, your general medical heath, and your physical goals.  They will then perform a physical examination to establish what anatomical structure/s are the source of your pain, and what underlying factors might be contributing to the problem, such as weakness or biomechanical issues.  From here, your athletic therapist will discuss the findings and consider the treatment options with you to achieve your specific goals.  The treatment plan is tailored to you.  Follow-up sessions will continue the treatment process and any adjustments, based on how you present, can be made to the plan.

What forms of treatment can be offered?

  • Manual therapy: including joint mobilizations and soft tissue techniques such as massage.

  • Exercise rehabilitation: to strengthen, mobilise, and stretch specific areas.

  • Movement analysis and correction: to improve alignment, movement patterns, reduce the load on sensitive tissues, and improve performance.

  • Education and advice: one of the most important and effective aspects of rehabilitation is to understand more about the problem and the best ways to facilitate and take part in your own recovery. You will be given a clear explanation of the diagnosis and any other underlying causes, and we will discuss what is required to address these issues and reach your goals.
