Acupuncture.

At Agile we see Acupuncture as part of an integrated and holistic approach to healing the body.

Traditional Acupuncture was developed thousands of years ago in Eastern Asia, with aims to address the current symptoms but also the root cause from within and restore overall wellness & health. Acupuncture is an effective tool as it acts to stimulate the body’s natural pain killers and releases the body’s natural chemicals to aid healing. Acupuncture needles can also positively impact the nervous system which can stimulate a biochemical reaction to aid in healing the nervous system.

What to expect?

On your initial appointment your therapist will conduct a thorough assessment through questions as well as hands on tests. Your therapist may even check your pulse as well as your tongue to assist in their evaluation to further identify the root cause of your injury or illness. This will assist them in creating a personalized and holistic treatment plan specific to you. Your initial appointment will be 60-minutes to give yourself and the therapist plenty of time to go through your entire case and concerns. The number of follow-up treatments required will vary case to case.

Your session will include sterile very fine needles being placed into specific locations throughout the body. These spots may be located near your area of injury but could be placed in different locations as well to aid in stimulating a global reaction. While needles are being used you may feel a small scratch on your skin for a quick moment, once that subsides, the treatment session should be painless. During the session, the needles will be left in for 20-40 minutes this will vary on what is being treated, at this time you will have a moment to relax! Some patients may even fall asleep during their sessions.

Patients with bleeding disorders or on blood thinners may find they bruise more easily during their treatment sessions, please make your therapist aware of either conditions prior to any forms of active treatment.

Do not drink alcohol or take recreational drugs four hours prior to your appointment. Please refrain from smoking for one hour prior to your treatment. Please continue to take any other medications as prescribed by your doctor.

What forms of treatment can be offered?

  • Acupuncture or Acupressure: with the use of pressure or needles can causes a release of endorphins which assist with pain management as well as increase circulation and healing and the movement of energy throughout the body

  • Cupping: a practice used to facilitate circulation through tight and damaged tissue as well as supports health circulation as well
